Studio Life

It's been a funny week for me in the studio. I've not got a lot of art to show as my time has been taken up with preparation for my art group in Whalley and for my iPad course on Saturday. Each of these needs some work and I spent most of last Monday painting skies as practice. This next week I will be practicing water. I have got a commission to show from Christmas. This striking dog portrait was done from two wonderful photos and was great fun to paint. Ot has been nice to see other artists coming and going and there has been lots of activity around here.

The creative late event took place on Thursday evening and Just Imagine UK held their Happy HeART event, more of these below.

I ran the first of my iPad Art workshops for beginners this weekend. We had a wonderful time in the Billiard Room in the main house as the delegates got top grips with Autodesk Sketchbook on a number of different devices. WE looked at colour mixing, layers and completed a still life to a very high standard. Great fun and please watch out for the next courses which will be added here and on social networking.

A few images from the day.....

They also got to take away the fruit!

Now for my efforts this week.

Catherine Lansdale

Catherine's baby, the 'Creative Late' themed sketching event happened on Thursday evening. A packed crowd saw a number of 80's icons model to classic tracks from that era. The quality of costumes as well as the sketching was excellent as ever, many of the costumes having been made by Catherine herself after her trawl of the local charity shops. This is always a popular evening and the bar stays open to help the creative juices flow. Here's looking forward to the next one, Catherine and myself have already been discussing possible themes. Watch this space and social networking for more details. The full range of photos can be seen on Catherine's Facebook page but here are a few to whet your appetite.

Leo Crabtree

Leo has been spending lots of time in the studio and working on a new range of paintings of the Haworth. This week I have featured the first in this series. He is procucing these on small canvas boards and using acrylics as a series of glazes to produce the distinctive colours seen here. Next week I hope to show the second once it's completed!

Just Imagine UK

Storm Ciara couldn't stop Danielle and Sam spread happiness across the area. Danielle was whistling as she worked on Sunday afternoon at a lucky youngster's party. They have have once again been all around the North West running their various after school clubs and their Performing Arts Academy. They also held auditions in their studio this weekend.

The major event for the studios was their latest Happy HeART evening. This is a regular monthly Friday evening where people come together and create chat and generally have a good time. This week Gill from Snooty Fox Vintage held a wax melts session where those involved were able to blend their own scents and create their own melts. Gill is planning on running another session at the next event.

And Finally

The Gallery Kitchen have changed their opening hours and will now be open for early evening dining Wednesday to Saturday. They are offering their daytime menu as well as a three course evening option with some gorgeous selections for you to enjoy.

Please note, for the regular early morning visitors, the morning opening time has been changed to 11.30am. The full list of new times is shown below.
