Happy New Year to everyone and thanks for your reads last year. I hope that you will continue to return to the weekly blog to see what we have all been doing at the Studios and the Haworth Art Gallery.
Things are starting to get back to normal after the festive break and the artists are spending more and more time in their spaces. Personally I have been active on a number of pieces in a range of media including iPad, watercolour car sketching and acrylics. I am also sharing the first of a number of Christmas commissions I had last year. The ducks were a particular favourite of mine as they marked the first watercolour I did for a while. I have also started doing the 30 day sketchbook challenge on Facebook. In this, I am emailed the topic for the day and then a sketch is done in any medium and posted online. I am happy to say I've not missed a day yet.
Ok, here are my offerings this year so far.
The major piece of work completed so far this year is an acrylic of a couple of pigs. I am very happy how it worked out.
Tablet Art Workshop for Beginners
On Saturday Feb 8th I will be running the first in a series of tablet art workshops. This session is aimed at beginners and can be done with an iPad or Android tablet. The three hour session will be held in the lovely surroundings of the Billiard Room at the Haworth and delegates just need to download the free Autodesk Sketchbook App and bring their tablet along. There are still places available and the booking details can be found on the poster below.
PLEASE NOTE... The original posting for this workshop included the Kindle Fire as a compatible device. However the app used was withdrawn from the Kindle Fire last year and is no longer supported.
Catherine starts her long lost of courses at the Haworth next week, the full schedule can be found on her social network feeds as well as the last two 'Studio Life' blog posts which are still available to view. You can also pop into the studio and discuss the content of each of her offerings if you need more details.
Catherine's classes at Hobbycraft in Bolton have already started and this week her delegates undertook the challenge of birch trees in ink. The results were very good as can be seen in these two examples.
Catherine can now show some of her Christmas commissions now they have been received. If you want a portrait as a gift for someone or as a treat fro yourself, please come and discuss your requirements with Catherine.
A late piece of news from Catherine is that she has just heard the wonderful news that her painting 'Canullas' which she recently had accepted into the HOME's 2020 Open Exhibition in Manchester has been shortlisted in the Drawing and Illustration category for the awards held in February. This is an amazing achievement to be selected at one of 20 finalists from an entry of 2000. fingers crossed! Here is the amazing painting again.
The Second Day of Contrasts
Catherine and myself will be running our second 'Day of Contrasts' workshops on the 13th February. This sees the same topic or media executed in a single day, firstly in traditional media with Catherine in the morning followed by the digital version on the tablet with me in the afternoon. The topic for this day will be 'Ink' we will be playing around with ink in bottles and ink on the tablet. If you want to book a space on the workshop please let me know by using the contact section above. The poster for this will be going live next week.
Leo has been spending much of 2020 in his studio working on the recent commissions he has picked up. The owls have put away their Christmas hats and the watercolour landscapes are now taking centre stage again. I have posted one of Leo's paintings below which gets most comments when visitors come to the studios. Everyone thinks they know the location for this painting, but Leo actually mashed together three images for this even though it does have a local theme to it. I am sure this one will sell soon.
Snooty Fox Vintage
Gill from Snooty Fox Vintage has been managing to juggle her very busy working commitments with time to develop her Studio venture. The New Year sees a newly updated website, new branding, an expaned product range and a series of pop up shops held on Sundays at the Studios.
One of her initiatives is more of her candle making workshops with the first one being on Sunday the 9th February. This event will see the delegates making their own candle with their own blend of fragrance, and whilst their creations are setting, afternoon tea will be enjoyed at the Gallery Kitchen in the Haworth. All materials will be provided and the cost including the afternoon tea is £50 per person with a maximum of four places available. Please see the Snooty Fox Facebook page for more details and to book a place.
It's back by popular demand!
Catherine and myself are organising the next Creative Late sketching session held in the Billiard Room at the Haworth. Put February 6th in your diary for an 80's themed sketching extravaganza. The doors will open at 6.30pm to enable you to set up your stall, get comfortable and get a drink from the bar, before the special guests make an appearance for your sketching delight at 7.00pm. We have a number of 80's icons coming from the art and entertainment worlds, something for everyone. The event is ticketed at £5 per person. Tickets available as per the poster.
Just Imagine UK
Well the Elf outfits have been put away, Santa has returned to his home at the North Pole and Just Imagine UK had a very well deserved few days off with their families over the Christmas period. They have returned with a bang, and have some great things planned for 2020. After a short regrouping exercise they are back on the road again with a number of after school clubs kicking off this week. They are returning to their established schools as well as new ones coming on board. The parties continue a pace and should you be looking for that something special for your young loved one than look no further than Just Imagine UK. They have a huge range of characters who will turn up to surprise and young boy or girl. Look them up online or follow their Facebook page to see what they have been up to. Personally I'm looking forward to having them back in their studio space, their energy is contagious!
Just a final thank you on behalf of all the artists, artisans and performers at the Stables and Motor House Studios. First for managing to read this far! and for all the support and commissions we all received on the run up to Christmas. Please continue to keep us in mind if you need a personalised hand made gift for a loved one. We are open most days and don't keep the same hours as the Haworth Art Gallery. We are all independent artists and we welcome visitors at any time we are open. Come along and see what we do and have a chat and learn about the wonderful conversion of the Stables and Motor House block. Please remember as well as the artwork and crafts, we also run a number fo courses at the Haworth, so if you fancy trying something different or want to buy a course for a friend or partner, you can find details here, or by dropping by and picking up a leaflet.
Thanks again and see you soon.
